About

Welcome!

Being that this blog is called Dyspraxia Days, I'm guessing you found your way here because your kid (and/or possibly yourself) is dyspraxic.  I am too. And so is my son, Jam*, who was born in 2008.

I'm not going to lie- there are things about having developmental dyspraxia that are totally sucky. But, overall, in the grand scheme of things, it's manageable. I turned out fine enough (against some rough odds, I might add) and Jam is going to turn out even finer. This blog is about how he's going to get there.

These are just some of the topics that swirl around my head daily and that you'll be seeing here:

  • developmental dyspraxia/developmental coordination disorder (DCD)
  • sensory processing disorder (SPD)
  • hypotonia/low muscle tone
  • dysgraphia
  • highly sensitive introvert
  • anxiety
  • self-esteem
  • internal perfectionism
  • education & schooling
  • right brain learning style

I hope you find something useful here and that it isn't a total waste of your time. (Internet surfing time is a precious commodity- I know!) And if you'd care to share your own experiences and perspectives, please do drop me a line. I'd love to hear from you. Parenting dyspraxia can sometimes be lonely. Thank the gods for the interwebs!

* And don't worry- I didn't really name my kid Jam.  His initials spell out J-A-M and I'm just too lazy to call him by his proper multisyllabic name. So if you're at a park in Seattle and you hear someone calling for 'Jam', it's probably me- do stop and say 'hello'!
